Certifying Citizenship

People keep clamoring for Barack Obama’s original birth record. Take it from a family history researcher, I would be extremely surprised if Rush Limbaugh could get his original birth record because I can’t get mine. I had to have a birth record when applying for social security and it is virtually identical, in the form and information given, to every other birth record I have obtained since I began researching.

My mother’s birth record from Chambers County, TX, has the date and girl with her maiden name. No first name or anything.

I have never been allowed to see, much less have, any original birth record, including my daughter’s. I signed it in 1978 and have not seen it since. I couldn’t touch the original today, if I went to the county health department.

I suspect that if Rush and every GOP crazy, including Congress, tried, there won’t be any that will come up with anything other than a copy with a stamp of authenticity on it.

If you are old enough you might be able to come up with some flowery, suitable for framing, certificate given to your mother as she was leaving the hospital, but that is not a legal record.

I demand Rush produce his original, official birth record. Believe me, my husband has family in Missouri and you only get copies. In fact, I hate to even mention this, but around 1900, Rush’s third cousin, one time removed, Bertha Limbaugh, married Sanford Samuel Hahn who is my husband’s fourth cousin, three times removed. My husband is not a blood relative of Rush. Sanford only lived about five years after he married a Limbaugh.

OK, now that I have let that skeleton out of the family closet, I still don’t think Rush can produce his original, official birth certificate.

In fact if anyone wanted to try, I’ll bet if you get the birth records of any people born at the same time, they will look just like President Obama’s.

The Observer carries on the "give 'em hell" tradition of its founder, the late Frosty Troy. I read it from cover to cover. A progressive wouldn't be able to live in a red state without it.
