Dropping The Hammer

BY KENNY BELFORD

Convicted felon and former Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay has now been ordered to serve three years in prison for his money laundering scheme. He was also given a five-year prison sentence on a separate charge, but the judge allowed DeLay to accept a 10-year probation sentence in lieu of more prison time.

At the time of his disgraced resignation and departure from Congress, Republican and now Speaker of the House John Boehner said this about Tom DeLay: “He has served our nation with integrity and honor.”

Criminal charges, felony convictions, money laundering, corruption, senior staff members and associates pleading guilty to criminal charges, all that swirling around Tom DeLay and leadership of the Republican Party thinks “integrity and honor” are appropriate descriptions of Tom DeLay.

That should speak volumes.

The Observer carries on the "give 'em hell" tradition of its founder, the late Frosty Troy. I read it from cover to cover. A progressive wouldn't be able to live in a red state without it.
