Evangelicals’ Bulwark?

on

BY KAREN WEBB

Huh, Donald Trump is a bulwark against what?

According to an article in the Charlotte Observer, a North Carolina evangelical leader, who doesn’t want his name used for some reason, says evangelicals are concerned about an “increasingly hostile secular world. They see Donald Trump as their bulwark.”

I wouldn’t want my name put on that either because every inch of Donald Trump is as secular as you can get.

Call me old fashioned, but when I was a Religious Education major at a Southern Baptist College, if you said you had never done anything to be forgiven for and you never, ever gave God the glory for anything you have accomplished you would have been called a “bulwark for secularism.”

His pastor was Norman Vincent Peale which is supposed to mean he is OK just because he heard him preach, but in Iowa in 2016 Trump said that he “drinks the wine and eats the cracker” and that is all the repentance he needs.

It is all about the “right to choose” – gay rights or the rights of People of God to discriminate in Jesus’ name?

Back in the ‘60s we used to believe in witnessing to people and then God would do the changing. Obviously, something is very wrong with the way witnessing is being done because they can’t seem to convince anyone that what they are doing isn’t leading people to Christ.

Do as I say, don’t do as I do. Maybe if you got that redwood trunk out of your eye you could see that Trump isn’t a bulwark against secularism.

The Observer carries on the "give 'em hell" tradition of its founder, the late Frosty Troy. I read it from cover to cover. A progressive wouldn't be able to live in a red state without it.
