Here in Oklahoma, the favorite mantra is “we are not politically motivated,” but they are religiously motivated. They are trying to save us from ourselves whether we like it or not.
Right now, the GOP primary to fill Rep. Mary Fallin’s 5th Congressional District seat is a good example. It is a Christian stand-off. God is leading both Kevin Calvey and James Lankford to save us from affordable health-care.
Since both go to doctors and not ministers when they are sick, we can assume neither believes in true faith-healing – if it applies to their families.
Calvey’s ads say that he and Lankford are both Christians of the highest standards, but Kevin is the better fighter – which I guess means Lankford is too soft on those without affordable health-care or jobs and therefore he is too Christian to put up the necessary fight against the infirmed and unemployed.
Lankford is calling Calvey an insider because he believes all of this stuff about experience is overblown. The entire GOP was talking about Obama’s lack of experience being a detriment, but this time around inexperience is what we need more of. They are both using God as a political tool.
They aren’t the only ones, Rep. Sally Kern, a Baptist preacher’s wife who said that homosexuality was a worse threat than terrorism, is now saying that she was just trying to let the GOP faithful know that there are wealthy homosexuals trying to bring “freedom and equality to everyone.”
There are Americans who do not get the freedom to marry the consenting adult of their choice and there are Americans who deserve to die without health-care. Just say no to “Freedom and Equality for All” because the Bible says “for all have sinned” and homosexuality and being poor are way worse than self-righteousness.
Oklahoma does not have a lock on anti-freedom or God’s vendetta against equality.
Alabama Sen. Jeff Session is saying that the guys who passed the Fourteenth Amendment meant that only those born in this country to the descendents of slaves were entitled to citizenship by birth. I think that means there should be a rush of applications for citizenship to all of those descendents born to immigrants, who were not slaves, even if they were paid slave wages and treated like crap.
No matter what people tell you, there are not thousands of Anglos lined up at Job Fairs for Farm Help.
And then there is this Muslim Community Center in Manhattan. They say it is too close to ground zero and these Muslims need to do something about their radical preachers and members. And then there is the case in Murfreesboro, TN which is still too close to ground zero at 891 miles and the case in Iowa which is still to close at 1,110 miles. Christians in Jesus shirts are protesting and yelling Jesus hates Muslims. By their own their own logic, their churches should be excommunicating them or maybe stoning.
Well, if Muslims have to be punished for their radical’s interpretation of the Koran then it should apply to Christians’ radical interpretation of the Bible. No Christian churches within 1,000 miles of any church or house burned by the Klan because the Klan uses the Bible and burns crosses to make their point. No Christian churches within 1,000 of Salem, MA or Rhode Island. What about Rev. Phelps and the Westboro BaptistChurch in Kansas? Hitler used the Bible to persecute Jews.
By this GOP logic there shouldn’t be a Christian facility of any kind within miles of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Atlanta. The Bible was used to justify slavery, the inquisition and nearly every war ever fought. God told me to tell you that all of this land is His and I am taking it.
They say you can’t put this facility that close to ground zero because you can’t put a neo-Nazi meeting place near the Holocaust Museum, but that isn’t so or it shouldn’t be. If you can’t defend the rights of free speech and assembly for the worst then you don’t deserve it yourself.
I am just so tired of “Christians” using God and the Bible to justify their outrageously un-Christian behavior and to scare people into voting for people who do not care if they have affordable health-care or jobs. People like Mary Fallin who raced back to DC to vote against the poor and she would do the same to vote for continued tax breaks for millionaires who are not creating jobs, with benefits and a living wage, in this country.
As I recall the Bush Administration said that if you have a surplus then you should give it back and let the wealthy use it to create good paying jobs.
“If you have done it unto the least of these you have done it unto me.” The “least of these” are dying without health care or jobs which means you guys have some explaining to do.
