Nuclear Power: Down, But Not Out

on

BY MORTON S. SKORODIN

We stopped nuclear power in Oklahoma, at least temporarily. Nationally and internationally, nukes have had recent serious defeats and delays, but unfortunately, victories, too. Powerful interests continue to promote nukes.

The general public is rarely if ever informed of the dangers of nuclear power.

We are fortunate in having Cathy Garger come, from Baltimore/DC, and guide us through a look at the pollution created by current and proposed nuclear reactors – and the resulting impacts on human health, our environment, and our local food and water supply.

Garger is a writer, speaker and activist – expert in nuclear matters. In 2009 she founded “People Against A Radioactive Chesapeake.” She is a columnist for www.axisoflogic.com. At the Washington Peace Center she served on a panel on International Illegality of Radiological Weapons, “Poisons of War,” in November 2008 and has conducted numerous workshops and presentations on nuclear power, radiological weapons issues, and consequences of military pollution from 2005 to 2010.

Garger’s Oklahoma tour:

Sunday, Nov. 7, 2:30 p.m. Stillwater Public Library, 1107 S. Duck, Stillwater

Monday, Nov. 8, 7 p.m., Bethany Public Library, 3501 N. Mueller, four blocks south of Route 66 [NW 39th St.] Oklahoma City

Tuesday, Nov. 9, 6 p.m., Kendall Whittier Library, 21 South Lewis, Tulsa

The Observer carries on the "give 'em hell" tradition of its founder, the late Frosty Troy. I read it from cover to cover. A progressive wouldn't be able to live in a red state without it.
