Obama’s Trifecta

on

BY KENNY BELFORD

Ever had one of those weeks when Murphy’s Law seemed to be the law of the land? You betcha! Sometimes nothing seems right and it’s raining toads on us. Then there’s the opposite. The ying to yang. That’s what this is about.

Somebody is having an amazing week. It’s Barack Obama.

Against the objections of Republicans Obama was able to get legislation passed ending the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. It was a campaign promise and he delivered.

That’s big, but just like Billy Mays used to say, “But wait, there’s more.”

Once more, against the objections of Republicans, Obama was able to get legislation passed providing medical assistance to 9/11 responders. It was the right thing to do, Republicans opposed it, Democrats and President Obama beat back their opposition and passed it.

“But wait, there’s more!”

Also against the objections of Republicans, Obama was able to get ratification of the strategic nuclear arms treaty with Russia through the Senate.

Any one of those would have qualified the week as a banner week, but Obama delivered a trifecta and it’s only Wednesday.

Once more Republicans were only the wrong side of issues. It was Murphy’s Law for Republicans, but one great week for Americans.

Now John Boehner, the soon-to-be weepy Republican Speaker of the House really has something cry about.

The Observer carries on the "give 'em hell" tradition of its founder, the late Frosty Troy. I read it from cover to cover. A progressive wouldn't be able to live in a red state without it.
