Gut Check

on

BY KAREN WEBB

Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn wanted to know Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor’s gut feeling on gun control. Her answer was nicer than mine would have been. She said you don’t decide cases that way.

I would have said, “Every Republican on the planet has been yelling for a month that I should ignore my Latina woman’s intuition, my empathy, sympathy, common sense and you want to know my gut feeling? If I can’t use my gut feeling then my gut isn’t your concern, is it?”

So far this month Coburn thinks he has the same rights as a minister because he lives in a church, he thinks marital advice for a man is privileged because Coburn is an OB-GYN and thinks he is a one man “well regulated militia.”

I think “well regulated” means there should be regulations.

Coburn thinks Sotomayor would be OK if she used the Bible to interpret the Constitution … as long as she used the correct interpretation.
