Choosing People Over Corporations

on

BY KAREN WEBB

I just called Oklahoma Rep. Dan Boren’s office. He isn’t my rep, but he is a Blue Dog Democrat and I just got news of another health care mess in the family and I am really PO’d. I called my representative’s representatives, too.

It isn’t about me, because my deductible at the hospital will be $40.

My niece’s five-year-old has sleep apnea, and they said she needs one of those machines or they could take her tonsils and adenoids out. Her cousin is the same age and it corrected his problems with so many infections.

They have insurance and had been told they could make payments for their deductible at the hospital, but when they got to Texas Children’s in Houston they were told they had to pay the entire $2,500 deductible up front or they would not admit her.

That is outrageous because they have insurance, but still can’t afford to be treated because of high deductibles and they deduct money from his check and it isn’t cheap.

I gave both Boren and Rep. Tom Cole, R-OK, what for, and I told Cole’s office they needed to stop all the crap about Obama wanting to kill the elderly because it is a lie.

I told them they needed to care more about people and less about corporations.

I told them it makes no difference to me what they call it or what it does to my taxes, every American deserves health care they can afford. I told them I already have insurance bureaucrats making my health care decisions and if the government does it at least I can vote for the guy who has the best deal and the Repubs have no deal.

I don’t care if it is socialized, single payer, public option, every American deserves affordable health care. We need to stop this unholy alliance with big time health care companies.

I told Boren’s office that I may not be able to do a lot, but I would do everything I could to keep the little DINO out of office.

I said I was aware that he doesn’t get big money from health lobbies, but his fellow Blue Dogs do. His alliance is with big oil. I have already told the state Democratic Party they will be getting no money from me because of that little twit. If I donate it will be to individual candidates.

It didn’t help that his new campaign office has no pictures of Obama, but has pictures of Danny boy with Dubya.

Puke, yuck, gag.

  1. Health Care: Dan Boren Has An “Us-Four–No-More” Attitude

A July 29 Tulsa World story quotes U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, D-Okla., as saying he opposes “a mandatory public option for (health care) coverage.” In other words, he opposes government-run health care coverage.

Does he oppose Medicare and the Veterans Administration (VA) health care systems as well? Both are run by the government.

Happily, the VA has authority to negotiate with prescription drug manufacturers for lower drug prices. The rest of us pay the world’s highest prices for our prescription drugs.

Finally, Boren has government-run health care coverage for himself. Yet he opposes the same option for the rest of us.

To be consistent, he needs to drop his public coverage and buy his own insurance from a private company as the rest of us do. Then he can help us pay private insurance companies’ enormous administrative expenses — for example, the cost of huge executive pay packages and the enormous cost for marketing health services and products like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.

According to a recent Quinnipiac University National Poll, 69 percent of Americans “support creation of a government-run health plan to compete with private insurance companies.”

Surely some of that “69 percent” live in Boren’s district, the Second Congressional District. Perhaps he should visit with them.

  2. Dan Boren is our “elected” representative but I can personally tell you that he has no interest in the people of his district. We have lived in this part of Oklahoma (Poteau) for five years and have never seen Dan Boren or even heard of him being anywhere near Poteau. He will always answer your letters and emails with a nice form letter explaining that he has no intention of supporting any legistaltion that would in no way benefit the people that actually live here. Dan Boren needs to be exposed to the reality of what kind of health care that is available in his district. I’m sure that he has never had to settle for the quality of care that the majority of people here get. We consider ourselves fortunate (at least for the time being) having good medical coverage, low co-payments and can travel to Arkansas to see a doctor.
