State lawmakers kicked off their 2021 session Monday with less than the usual pomp and circumstance – an acknowledgement of the reality that Oklahoma remains locked in the coronavirus’ killer grip.

While Gov. Kevin Stitt offered a rosier-than-realistic analysis of the State of the State, the GOP’s hypermajority knows it has its work cut out for it – a teetering economy that threatens already underfunded state services, a potentially epic battle with the governor over privatizing Medicaid, and a pandemic that has claimed the lives of 3,564 of our fellow Sooners.
