Wonder Where Miranda Went?

on

BY KAREN WEBB

Attorney General Eric Holder doesn’t think Miranda rights should be for all citizens. Who gets to decide who gets it and who doesn’t?

This has to do with that executive power thingy; once you give a president, George W. Bush, for instance, a new executive power then everyone, Barack Obama, for instance, gets to use it.

People told me that Obama was not going to give back any of those over-reaches of power obtained by the Bush Administration and I was so naïve. I said there is no way a constitutional law professor would do that, but not so.

He has kept and used nearly all of them.

So what is that Obama Anti-Miranda warning going to be like? Which part do they not like or think is completely unnecessary.

We realize you are a United States citizen, but you DO NOT have the right to remain silent and we will make you talk because we don’t really give a crap about the Geneva thing anyway. If you do remain silent that will mean you are really, really, really guilty and anything you don’t say will be held against you and everything you do say we let pass?

You get an attorney if we are in a generous mood and there will be no way in hell an attorney will be present during questioning, because there is not a defense attorney worth his salt who will just sit there and let us do or say whatever we please, except maybe Sen. Lindsey Graham.

We realize we just seized all your assets, but if you do find a lawyer we won’t pay for it.

I guess this means the Fifth Amendment goes in the crapper, as well. Why do they need more leeway? They have already made torture acceptable or, at the very least, un-punishable, regardless of the severity. You can pretend to drown a guy over 40 times in a month and all you get is a “you’ve been a bad boy” admonishment. People have died in our custody.

What are they planning to do? It has to be something that would never be allowed to happen to most U.S. citizens in a police station.

This is way, way, way over the edge. Please, do not defend this. You can’t possibly stand by him on this. Can you imagine what the next Republican president will do with this gift that will keep on giving?
