In case you missed it, the Good Morning America news crawl on Aug. 11 reported that 99% of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince was under the control of Haitian gangs.
Later that same day, a 34-time convicted felon announced his takeover of the United States capital’s police force and announced his deployment of National Guard troops onto its streets.
President Donald Trump, the worst liar in American political history, claimed Washington, DC, was beset by “crime, bloodshed, bedlam and squalor and worse.”
Of course, the worst violence DC has seen in recent years came on Jan. 6, 2021, when this law-and-order president unleashed a mob of hooligans on the U.S. Capitol – traitors brandishing Confederate battle flags – in a failed coup d’état.
This is the anti-crime president who smirked with satisfaction when he thought his shock troops had captured honest Vice President Mike Pence whom they were threatening to hang and who delayed reinforcing beleaguered Capitol police defending the Halls of Congress.
This is the law-and-order president who pardoned more than 1,600 of his violent Jan. 6 pawns on his first day in office this year, signaling his endorsement of political violence against those who oppose him.
This is the anti-crime president whom a jury found guilty of battery and sexual abuse of a woman in a department store dressing room – awarding her a $5 million settlement.
This is the same law-and-order president whom another jury found guilty of defaming the same woman on one of his anti-social social media posts and ordered him to pay her another $83 million.
Yes, yes, yes, this is the same anti-crime crusader whom a federal judge ordered to pay $25 million in restitution to former students who said they had been duped and defrauded by Trump University, described by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman as a “sham university.”
It seems that a good first step toward making Washington, DC, “a crime free zone” would be for Donald Trump to leave town – which he does often on his pocket-filling golfing and grifting excursions.
No, Haiti has nothing on the banana republic tyranny that Trump wants to establish in this country – with the calculated collaboration of Congressional Republicans.
Actual FBI statistics released just a week prior to Trump’s DC takeover showed that, “both violent and property crime rates continued to drop throughout 2024, reaching their lowest points since at least 1969,” according to Stephen Prager of Common Dreams.
Furthermore, at his Aug. 11 announcement, Trump threatened federal occupation of Democratic-run Los Angeles [again], Baltimore, Oakland, New York and Chicago – “Like with DC, in every single one of the cities he named, crime is actually falling, in some cases reaching historic lows,” Prager reported.
But statistics wander lost in the befogged lobes of Trump’s brain. The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows fewer new jobs than he wants? Fire its director and nominate a replacement who suggests doing away with this economic statistic vital to the planning of businesses and investors.
Trump later announced he would produce Trumpspeak numbers to justify the federal invasion. We can expect similar lies as Trump spins his coming economic disaster as a great success.
Of course, the Trumpista occupation of Washington could have been mitigated if not for the careful, cautious, cowardly Democrats, who did not push through DC statehood back in 2021.
[I’m hoping my frustration with the state Democratic party is waning. But those controlling the national party have been slow to realize the threat to the republic posed by Donald Trump and his fascist friends.]
The 714,200 residents in Washington, DC, are more people than in Vermont or Wyoming – and more than both Alaska [220,000] and Hawaii [622,000] when they joined the Union in 1959 and 1960, respectively.
But dawdling Democrats – having learned no lesson from the no-governing GOP opposition to Bill Clinton and Barack Obama – twiddled their thumbs. Now they are wringing their hands in disbelief and despair that an avowed racist and “dictator from day one” is doing just what he said he would.
Why couldn’t that have been among his litany of lies? Legacy of lies? Liturgy of lies for his cultists?
