Operation Do-Gooder

Gov. Kevin Stitt’s recent expansion of his inaptly named Operation SAFE is proof yet again that he is more show pony than workhorse.

All his roundup of unhoused folks from public byways first in Tulsa and now in Oklahoma City does is temporarily conceal a long festering problem: thousands of the least among us do not have a permanent roof over their heads.

Outgoing state Rep. Forrest Bennett, whose OKC House district is home to many of the capital’s 1,882 unhoused, joins us for the latest Observercast – Operation Do-Gooder – to discuss the governor’s out-of-sight, out-of-mind approach and possible public policy solutions that give a hand up to the state’s ever-increasing homeless population.

Editor’s Note: Bennett joined us last week before he was elected the AFL-CIO’s new state president, a full-time position that will require him to resign from the statehouse after serving nearly five terms.
