Republicans have a choice for lieutenant governor between a failed former speaker of the House and a superstar, statewide-elected and honest auditor and inspector.
One is a work horse, the other a show horse. One with a record of accomplishment, reform and results. The other most noted for empty rhetoric, restless ramblings and political punditry devoid of value or vision.
Ex-Speaker T.W. Shannon has the endorsement of a goofy and gutless president – a draft dodger, in fact – while current Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd is a bright, public person who has ferreted out waste, fraud and abuse her entire eight years as a successful statewide, scandal-free servant of you, the people.
Crooks and clowns characterized the eight years of two, dark and turgid terms of Gov. Kevin Stitt. Epic, Swadley, failed lawsuits, and now a budget a half-billion dollars underwater are clueless Kevin’s footnotes in history. Similarly, Shannon has no record or reputable regard, only one littered with do-nothing nonsense and a multitude of races for higher office, all resulting only in voter resounding rejection.
Meanwhile, Byrd and her staff of green eyeshade accountants have produced a record of results as watchdogs for each tax dollar Oklahoma citizens have paid.
Time after time, a pile of hot mess has been dumped in her lap, caused by Stitt camp followers who now await the court consequences of their incompetency and ignorance.
Untold millions of your money were stolen or squandered and without Byrd’s beneficial – albeit it often boring ability to add and subtract – the crooks and clowns would have continued their unabated abuse of the law.
Byrd knows why voters selected her twice in statewide balloting to do the hard work many others wouldn’t or won’t. By contrast, her most notable opponent, Trump toady Shannon currently sits in a political plum do-nothing appointment in DC, doing little more than drawing a breath and a paycheck.
Republicans pride themselves as being fiscally conservative, small government types. Right. Come June, in the primary election for lieutenant governor, we’ll find out if they really mean that or, sadly, continue what they, like silly sheep, do while strolling to the polls and choosing flash over facts, as they so often will.
Don’t believe me? You don’t have to and shouldn’t. Instead, you might want to look at your Oklahoma Legislature and what it does and doesn’t do.
If that doesn’t convince you, nothing I can say will save you, or our state, from … that’s right, y-o-u.
