Teachers are terrorists. Gay people are filth. Libraries are filled with porn.
Westville Sen. Tom Woods is the author of the filth comment. State Superintendent Ryan Walters owns the other two. They wrap themselves in the flag; use the Bible for their bigotry and rely on another knee jerk [actually, just a jerk] elected official for cover – that being the governor, Clueless Kevin Stitt.
Imagine That … which is a phrase that now purports to be Oklahoma’s motto.
Often elected leaders like to also trot out the so-called Oklahoma Standard which claims, among other things, that we’re just about the most generous and caring accumulation of folks to be found anywhere.
Maybe true, maybe not, but we damn sure like to embarrass ourselves nationally by putting into office such citizens as new Sen. Wood. His quote in another article this morning about LGBTQ+ residents is, of course, reflective of a noisy segment that too often has gained attention by uttering ignorant idiocies which then makes it much more difficult to attract or retain people “different” than farmer Wood.
He’ll be reinforced in his rhetoric over the weekend in local coffee shops and then most likely in church tomorrow followed by a return to the People’s Building on Monday.
Cow man Tom obviously doesn’t understand a number of people who have helped him succeed through the years are undoubtedly gay. Out of an abundance of stupidity he would deny that.
They are not “filth,” as he characterizes them, just as certain leaders in Europe did in the 1930s. Yes, the similarity of language to the Nazis by this bigoted bloviator is undeniable and reflective of what passes for leadership in parts of redneck, reactionary Oklahoma.
And to make it worse, Wood will most likely double down going forward because he wants to “represent” his people. At least in part I have to agree with him. There are others in SD 4 who harbor similar hatred, but there is a difference from their senator: They do not have a vote in the 48-member Senate; they will not make the national news with their nonsense; and they, for the most part, will quietly amble through life while Sen. Silly will spread his garbage as long as he can access a microphone.
He is what passes as elected leadership in a part of our current Legislature – and is proud of it. In reality, during his public service, he’ll accomplish little of substance while drawing his ample, taxpayer funded salary.
Eventually Wood will fade back into his own abyss of darkness, comforted only by his milk cows and the certainty that God will reward him for being a dimwitted dunce.
He’s at least right about the cows.
