Observercast

Dumb, Dumber, Dumbest?

on

BY KAREN WEBB

I would like to suggest that National Public Radio change its promo at least once a year. The one they have been using for months and months to show they don’t shy away from the controversial is one where Christopher Hitchens says, “The thing that bothers me most about religion is that it causes intelligent men to say stupid things.”

I am not a particularly religious person and haven’t been to church is years, but why, oh, why doesn’t someone look Christopher Hitchens straight in the eye and say, “What makes you and other non-believers say stupid things?”

During the Monica Lewinsky episode he got really stupid, and he was also pretty stupid about the war in Iraq. So what makes him say stupid stuff?

Pat Robertson isn’t intelligent, but he said something really cruel and nasty about Haiti. Why is it that when something like this happens all the TV preachers decide to equate it with end times or blame it on some kind of sin before they decide to help?

What kind of deal did our founding fathers make with the devil or God that caused this country to justify slavery?
