In Oklahoma, it’s the party’s superminority status in the Legislature and the fact not a single Democrat holds statewide office. What can – indeed, what must – Democrats do to get back in the game?
With this week’s Observercast – Getting Real About Democratic Politics – we’re launching an occasional series of conversations with some of the state’s best and brightest Democrats to hear their visions of the way forward. Our inaugural guest is former Oklahoma Teacher of the Year and Democratic nominee for state superintendent Jena Nelson, who knows a thing or two about what it’s like to run as a statewide candidate in the current Oklahoma political climate. She’s also the newly elected president of the 400-plus-member strong group Edmond Democratic Women who’ve helped turned a once Ruby Red part of central Oklahoma purple.
