I am really getting tired of people claiming that majority rule is equal to a democracy because nothing could be further from the truth. A democracy is protecting the minority from the majority.
A majority of Germans voted for Nazi candidates and ended up with a majority that put in Hitler. Supposedly a majority voted for what’s-his-face in Iran. Supposedly a majority of Iraqis voted for the U.S. puppet now in charge.
If you really want to see connections between the 2000 recount and what is happening today you need to check out Rachel Maddow’s site. Watch the segment called Guess where the Brooks Brothers riots are now?
She points out at least two people in the riot in Miami are leaders in it now. One worked for Tom DeLay and the other became a White House staffer for a short time. Both are working now for Koch Industries which is helping fund some of this. And the president of Koch is actually the leader of one of the groups.
I watched Houston Democratic Rep. Gene Green’s town hall on You Tube. It wasn’t as bad as some, but it was no picnic and you can get an idea of some of what is in the proposal and also how ignorant some Texans are about the democratic process.
One idiot who is in a union kept asking him if he could come to the office and read the bill Green kept showing. Green explained that it was the original bill that they have been working on, but that his committee alone had voted on about 70 amendments and some will be presented to the entire House and some won’t get out of committee.
He told the guy that there are many committees reviewing and having hearings on the parts of the bill that affect their committees and also considering amendments. The idiot appeared to think that after every committee meeting an entire new copy of the bill is printed. Then the guy said well, then, I guess the night before the final vote you will have to read the entire bill.
Can you imagine how long a bill of this size would take to get to a final vote if every amendment was voted on after it comes to the entire House?
Some people are so completely stupid.
