Good grief. What if the Union had given up on President Lincoln after Bull Run in 1861 or McArthur forced to retire after being run out of the Philippines 1942? A few thousand British Spitfire pilots could have quit and surrendered like French Marshall Petain did in France. Well, if so, both countries would be speaking German today.
