Mr. President, I Am Confused

on

BY KAREN WEBB

Confused is an understatement. First I am not an atheist, I am not gay and I have never had an abortion.

How do you give tax money to religious organizations and say it won’t have to do with promoting religion? When I went to church the only reason for social outreach was to bring those people to God. Why would a church accept money from anywhere if they are not allowed to teach the word and why would I want my money going to teach people in a way I might think was sending them to hell?

No religion promotes the taking of innocent life? Of course they do if they backed Shock and Awe or if they back continuing a war based on commerce. If they continue to blindly support anything Israel does they are also promoting the taking of innocent life.

They said you are willing to take back some of your campaign views on social issues. Which ones? I am hoping that reducing the number of abortions doesn’t involve backing off on choice or limiting choice. I hope it means that you get none of my tax money unless you teach every form of birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Who will be monitoring programs to make sure they aren’t spreading the word of anything with my tax money? Whatever happened to tithing? Maybe if churches stopped using their money for electioneering they would have their own money for programs.

Are you backing off any on gay rights issues because you should be backing the idea that everyone gets the same rights and that includes being able to marry whatever consenting adult will have them. The Constitution belongs to all of us.

How can you have a faith-based anything with tax money and say it doesn’t infringe on separation of church and state. It is one thing the right wing and I agree on – they don’t want their money to go to church groups they don’t agree with and neither do I.

You don’t really think saying that the church groups will be treated the same as the non-church groups and vice versa will do the trick. Giving money to non-Christian organizations won’t get it, either – no matter what it is, if it includes using tax money to indoctrinate people.
