An Old Boogeyman Enters Stage Right

on

When in doubt, stoke fear. That’s Republican Electoral Politics 101. And it’s on full display in the GOP legislative supermajority’s xenophobic HB 4156 that would give police the power to stop “others” whom they deem potentially guilty of a new crime: “impermissible occupation.”

Does anyone really think pre-World War II Germany’s “show me your papers” fascism is a great marketing tool for Oklahoma? The GOP’s legislative supermajority does.

For this week’s Observercast – An Old Boogeyman Enters Stage Right – state Rep. Annie Menz, a member of the legislative Latino Caucus, and Drew Diamond, former Tulsa police chief and Jewish Federation of Tulsa executive director, join us to explain the origins of this nasty public policy and the havoc it could wreak on Oklahoma for generations to come.

The Observer carries on the "give 'em hell" tradition of its founder, the late Frosty Troy. I read it from cover to cover. A progressive wouldn't be able to live in a red state without it.
