Both Sides Now

on

No one should be above the law, but we know that some people can get away with things while others don’t have the resources and the privilege to escape justice.

The legislators going after Hunter Biden know this but keep saying, “No one is above the law,” while trying to shield the former president from the consequences of his misdeeds.

Both sides say that the Justice Department and the Supreme Court must not be politicized, but the side shouting the loudest doesn’t believe it applies to them.

Let’s look at examples from both sides of the aisle.

Hunter Biden didn’t file his taxes.  He later paid what was owed, but the GOP believes he wasn’t treated harshly enough for the crime.

The Trump family business has cheated on their taxes for years. The investigation that ended in indictments, both for the company and for the former president, are part of a witch hunt, according to the GOP.

So, Hunter hasn’t been treated harshly enough, but leave Don alone?

Hunter Biden likely used his family name to get appointed to boards. According to the GOP, he should pay for this even though he was never part of the Biden administration and didn’t work through government channels.

Meanwhile, the GOP is silent about the money the Trump family made while Dad was in office. Ivanka returned from China with trademarks, and Jared returned from Saudi Arabia with investments from the Crown Prince.  Eric, Jr., and Melania all had their side gigs going, and with actual positions in the White House, some were earning a check from taxpayers.

Pence, Biden, and Trump had documents that should have been returned to the Library of Congress. As soon as they were found, Pence and Biden returned them.  As soon as he was found out, Trump moved his around, lied, asked his lawyers to lie for him, and hid boxes of files. Well, he didn’t hide them from people visiting his winter home in Florida.

Who knows how much damage Trump did to our national security? On purpose!

Trump and his army of followers, both citizens and government employees, tried to overturn an election. There are no “both sides” here. People in the legislature still parrot his claims, even though he lost every legal challenge, and we have his own words on tape.

Members of the Republican party who point out their own misdeeds do so at the risk of their own positions. Are there any GOP legislators left that are even the least bit embarrassed that the world can see through them?  They seem to believe their power is more important than the rule of law, never mind the maxims they keep throwing at the Democrats.

The Observer carries on the "give 'em hell" tradition of its founder, the late Frosty Troy. I read it from cover to cover. A progressive wouldn't be able to live in a red state without it.
