While Oklahomans are preoccupied with Hollywood A-listers filming Martin Scorcese’s film Killers of the Flower Moon in Osage County, their state government is busy passing laws like HB 1775 to outlaw teaching the violent historical truths like those depicted in the star-studded film. On the eve of the centennial of the Tulsa Race Massacre, garnering scrutiny on our state’s and our nation’s murderous past, we talked with former Osage Chief Jim Gray about what it really means to deny the valuable history lessons like those of the Race Massacre and Osage Nation’s Reign of Terror.
