Happy Funday: Mass Shooting At Lake Arcadia

on

Second Amendment lunacy in action hits close to home as 23 injured in Sunday’s’ mass shooting at a party in central Oklahoma are treated in area hospitals. Seven shooting victims remain hospitalized: three are in critical condition, four others in serious condition.

The two shooters, who arrived at the party wearing ski masks, opened fire around 9 p.m. and remain at large.

The party was promoted in social media as “Sunday Funday,” held without a permit at a campsite in the popular lakeside park at Arcadia.

State and local officials have not yet stated whether they now intend to build a ballroom.

As one friend has reminded me, meaningful debate over unfettered gun access in this country ended with Sandy Hook in 2012. Voices mournfully demanding modest tightening of gun access regulations in the wake of that national tragedy were drowned out by the gun industry lobby. Lawmakers did nothing.

In Oklahoma, lawmakers have actually eased restrictions since then, eliminating the requirement for training in firearm safety by simply doing away with the need for a permit to wield a concealed weapon.
