‘He Has No Interest In Fireside Chats. He Wants To Set Fires.’

That’s how columnist Maureen Dowd described Donald Trump in Sunday’s New York Times.

Another American citizen was gunned down on a Minneapolis street Saturday by a group of Americans wearing masks and tactical gear.

Most any bank robber would be proud. Hardly anyone else could be.

The guy killed was a 37-year-old emergency room nurse. His sin was helping a woman out of a snowbank where an ICE agent had just flung her because she didn’t get out of the street quick enough to please him. Like Renee Good, now dead for more than a week, just another “fucking bitch,” I presume.

With a massive snowstorm covering two thirds of our country, bringing bitter cold and gray skies along with it, in Minneapolis there is also the smell of death in the air. After all, George Floyd was choked to death just a few blocks from where Good was executed with bullets through her windshield while Saturday’s victim ended up with nearly 10 bullet holes in him for daring to be a gentleman. Or was it because he had a camera as well as a legal handgun on him, which was never drawn unless by one of the ICE MEN?

Democracy works when people work to make it work. Millions of just plain folks have given their lives in the pursuit of a “more perfect union” as did several of our presidents. Think Lincoln, Kennedy.

Others among the 47 to hold the title were at best rather bland, imbued only with average skills, talents and temperament but for the most part, they did their best. Still others presidents were remarkable achievers, brilliant, talented, dedicated and determined to do beyond their best for the rest of us.

However, just one, the current one, is so flawed, so selfish, so banal, so ill-tempered and tawdry that he threatens the very future of our country, meaning all that we celebrate this year, in our 250th anniversary, could portend there may not be a 251st.

While the Ayatollah’s secret police murder hundreds daily as they give their lives for what we have, a cabal of cowards and connivers surround Trump and prop him up for the selfish purpose of keeping their access, perks, corner offices and paint on their doors giving them temporary titles of power while history will permanently label them the fraudsters, phonies and sycophants they are.

And most sadly of all … many know it.

Good Night, Kristi Noem. Though you may have restless nights after your long days of disinformation and deceit, at least you will wake up.

Others won’t be so fortunate.
