Honest Questions For Dishonest Politicians

on

Why was the debt ceiling not an issue when President Trump was in office?

Why was the deficit not an issue when you passed tax cuts that mostly benefitted investors and people with high incomes?

Why now?

If this standoff is about the deficit, you wouldn’t have passed what President Trump touted as the largest tax cut in history. You wouldn’t want to gut the IRS to keep them from auditing wealthy tax cheats. This is not about the middle class, despite your anti-IRS talking points.

If the pandemic funds are such a problem, why did so many GOP legislators take advantage of them? Why do your words say one thing and your actions say another? Remember, actions speak louder.

Is this just political showmanship? Do you think this will make President Biden look worse than you are looking right now?

Do you really want solutions?

If you want to cut the deficit, tax the rich.

If you want everyone in the workforce, fund childcare. A quality workforce is healthy and educated. Don’t just fund STEM. Include the liberal arts. You want employees with critical thinking skills. Make sure to include sex education and access to contraception so that underaged moms don’t need government assistance to feed their children. Mental healthcare and drug treatment programs are good investments, too.

Under no circumstances is cutting food assistance a solution.

Raise the minimum wage so that people who are working don’t need your so-called handouts. A living wage is a hand up.

Fund Medicaid, and don’t make it hard for people to access. When people don’t have access to preventive care, who foots the bill for catastrophic care?

Poor, sick, hungry, uneducated people don’t build the economy. Investing in all the people will.

One last question: Do you care about the state of the economy or is this about maintaining power. No need to answer the question. Anyone with half a brain already knows the answer.

The Observer carries on the "give 'em hell" tradition of its founder, the late Frosty Troy. I read it from cover to cover. A progressive wouldn't be able to live in a red state without it.
