Observercast

Let The Unhoused Eat Cake

on

At least 4,000 Oklahomans are homeless on any given night – that’s 10 people per 10,000 in the general population. And we’re not just talking adults: Oklahoma City’s public schools served nearly 2,000 children experiencing homelessness in the 2021-22 school year.

Yet, last week, Gov. Kevin Stitt arbitrarily dissolved the Governor’s Interagency Council on Homelessness, leaving Oklahoma without a statewide strategy for addressing a growing problem.

For this week’s Observercast – Let The Unhoused Eat Cake – fourth-term state Rep. Monroe Nichols of Tulsa helps us unpack the governor’s head-spinning decision and offers ways Oklahomans can help make things better for the least of these among us.

The Observer carries on the "give 'em hell" tradition of its founder, the late Frosty Troy. I read it from cover to cover. A progressive wouldn't be able to live in a red state without it.
