Award-winning journalist Scott Latta, left, joined Observer Editor Arnold Hamilton at Nov. 13’s Observer Newsmakers to discuss his new book Gods of the Smoke Machine: Power, Pain, and the Rise of Christian Nationalism in the Megachurch.
Newsmakers occurs on the second Thursday monthly from January-November at OKC’s Full Circle Books. It is sponsored by the Mary Lou Lemon Foundation and the Oklahoma Observer Democracy Foundation.
The next Newsmakers will be Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026 when Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy Executive Director Joe Dorman joins us to discuss the state of Sooner kids who experience among the nation’s highest percentage of hunger, homelessness and health issues. Dorman, a former state representative, also will discuss what state lawmakers can do in the 2026 session to improve the lives of Oklahoma’s most vulnerable, their parents and caretakers.
