Now It’s Iran?

BY FROSTY TROY

Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently said he is “very hopeful that we don’t get into a position where we have to get into a conflict” with Iran.

In the understatement of the year he added, “It would be a very significant challenge for the United States right now to get into a third conflict in that part of the world.”

Yet CBS News has reported that the Pentagon is developing new “options” for attacking Iran.

Mullen issued a “stark new assessment” that “the government of Iran continues to supply weapons and other support to extremists in Iraq, despite repeated promises to the contrary, and is increasingly complicit in the death of American soldiers.”

Yet Mullen added, “I have no expectations that we are going to get into a conflict with Iran in the immediate future.”

Here sits fortress America, lumbering along in the wake of Bush’s Iraq folly facing yet another enemy. Had we stayed out – there were no WMDs – we wouldn’t be wasting hundreds of billions on a no-win “war” never declared by Congress.

Leading the cheering section for this travesty is the Oklahoma delegation. Too bad we can’t send them in uniform to fight side by side with our magnificent troops.

More than 4,300 brave military have made the supreme sacrifice. More than 30,000 have been severely wounded. An unprecedented number of those returning home have committed suicide.

This will be remembered as a dark chapter in the history of America.
