Our nation’s political, civic and cultural divide underscores a sobering reality: if we’re not careful, we could lose this grand 225-year experiment in self-governance.
One important guardrail that helps ensure we don’t fall into the hands of tyrants is a news media free of government interference and restrictions.
That’s why this #GivingTuesday we humbly invite you to consider a tax-deductible gift to the Oklahoma Observer Democracy Foundation, our 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to create a better informed Oklahoma.
Established 8½ years ago, the OODF supports efforts to provide all Oklahomans with important fact-based news and commentary they can’t get anywhere else.
Gifts, for example, help fund our weekly Observercast podcasts and our monthly in-person Newsmakers series, both aimed at improving civic understanding via on-the-news conversations with elected officials, activists and experts on the front lines of public policymaking.
They also help ensure cash-strapped town, county, K-12 school and college libraries across Oklahoma have access to news and analysis provided by The Oklahoma Observer, for 54 years the state’s leading independent journal of commentary.
A healthy nation and state requires a healthy public square, where political and public policy debates are based on facts and where differing viewpoints can be respectfully hashed out.

Please note: All donations made on #GivingTuesday through the Oklahoma Observer Democracy Foundation’s Facebook page also are eligible to be matched by Facebook’s parent company, Meta.
