The Onslaught Against Public Ed Continues

on

An acute teacher shortage. Schools that still haven’t recovered from a decade-plus of the nation’s deepest budget cuts. Private school vouchers projected to divert hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars that could have gone to underfunded public K-12 schools. A state education agency in disarray. A culture warrior state superintendent who wants evangelical Christianity unleashed in classrooms. Federal and state investigations into misspent education funds.

Oklahoma public education is in the crosshairs of an unprecedented attack. This week’s Observercast – The Onslaught Against Public Ed Continues – features Tulsa Rep. Melissa Provenzano, a former teacher and principal who helps us “follow the [dark money] money” working to destroy public education as we know it.

This is the second in our series of pre-school-year deep dives into the state of Oklahoma public education. Observercast is presented by the Mary Lou Lemon Foundation.

The Observer carries on the "give 'em hell" tradition of its founder, the late Frosty Troy. I read it from cover to cover. A progressive wouldn't be able to live in a red state without it.
