Under Gov. Kevin Stitt’s leadership, Oklahoma keeps breaking records. But they’re nothing you’d put in a trophy case. Ten days ago, the state reeled from a record-shattering one-day record of new COVID-19 cases – nearly 5,000. Today, it was a new record for coronavirus-related hospitalizations: 1,381.
While even the Republican governor of North Dakota reversed himself and ordered a statewide mask mandate, Stitt resists, ignoring the pleas of public health experts and legislative Democrats who offered up detailed plans to help get the raging pandemic under control.
On today’s Observercast – Episode 44: Even North Dakota – we visited with House Minority Leader Emily Virgin about the Democratic strategy and the impact of COVID-19 on Oklahoma’s healthcare system, state and local government resources, and rank-and-file Oklahomans, including her parents who survived being hospitalized with the deadly, invisible virus.
